Those who like to hike, ski-doo, or cross-country ski will find the area to be alive with opportunities — truly perfect for the outdoor enthusiast! South Indian Lake is approximately 175kms in length and over 20kms in width. One can only imagine the many bays, islands, pristine inland lakes and rivers that can be explored. The lake is fantastic for boating and also for fishing, offering some of the best Walleye and Northern Pike action in the world. The community is a proud owner of Big Sand Lake Lodge, a world-class lodge that caters to sport fishermen, and hunters. The lodge can accomodate sixty-two guests and has five different out-camps. Some of the largest Lake Trout on record have been caught here as well as trophy-sized Pike and Walleye.
Spring Activities
Though the snow may linger and the days can still feel like winter; the mood in South Indian Lake is anything but cold during the spring. Each year the spring festival, Mistatatakamik, is held and community members from young to old come to compete to decide who will be King & Queen trapper. Events include, trap setting, spike driving, net setting, leg wrestling, arm wrestling, target shooting, & more. This is also a great time for fowl hunting, as birds return home for the summer.

Summer Activities
Summers in South Indian Lake offer a large variety of things to do. Swimming, fishing, hiking, camping, boating, and outdoor sports are some of the more popular activities. Canada Day, and Kewekapawetan are two of the summer events held in South Indian Lake. The community comes together to celebrate our nation with various events, and also comes together to celebrate a return to home that takes place across the lake from the community.
